I had fabulous ideas for the kids' handmade valentine cards this year.
Hadn't quite narrowed down the ideas, they were so many and so great.
And then, last night, I bought these:
That's right. I caved. But at least they're Lego*.
Because last night I realized that getting 3 sets of handmade valentines out this week wasn't going to happen. It's just that sort of week.
Which is pretty disappointing. I love the (yet another) excuse for making little handmade 'somethings'. And I also like the idea of family celebrations and traditions, so I'd also wanted to do nice dinners for both Chinese New Year (especially because we're studying Ancient China right now) and Valentine's Day. Now we'll be having a one-night celebration of both. I had even planned on gocco-ing my own valentine cards - just for fun.
But that's okay - such is life this week.
We have managed to cut out lots of hearts.
Our garland is back up.
We did our annual Love One Another family night.
And we made more melted crayon window hearts (hung with ric rac).
Because the ones we made years ago disappeared.
The only thing really left to do is the sugar cookies. Because there WILL be sugar cookies.
In case you DO have time to make some handmade valentines this week and are looking for ideas, here's some fun things we've done in years past:
Cookie Flower BouquetsValentine Post office (and paint chip valentine cards) we're doing the post office activity again tomorrow!
Easy photo valentines (and heart bean bags)
And here are some links to other people's awesome ideas I had bookmarked - so I'll remember and start earlier next year!
*Yeah, these Lego ones are just for the boys - the girl is actually working on her own - it is a way fun idea, we'll definitely share it when she's done.
