Problem: Monkey has really bad excema. We have a prescription creme for him and that seems to help, but he breaks out esp. bad on his legs when he's in grass. All my kids have done this at about this age and seem to outgrow it.
He's going to have to wear pants outside this summer. But pants are hot!
Solution: Make him some linen pants!
I was checking out pants tutorials and rediscovered this one at Rookiemoms. The tutorial is for t-shirt pants, which I thought would be perfect - t-shirts are light - but, while digging through drawers to find old t-shirts, I found these old linen wide-leg pants of mine that I never did give away.
I cut them out the same way you would with a t-shirt so that you don't have to hem them - I love these pants!
I (of course) added a few appliqued patches. One (bottom of left leg) is a square from this fabric, and one a blue circle.
The back 'pocket' is just an applique, too!
They are soft and light and he was wearing them with a t-shirt. It was time to get him ready for church, but he didn't want to take his new pants off (he loves them, yay!) so I paired them with his white dress shirt and he wore them to church, too. SO cute - he looks so cool and springy!
It was partially beginner's luck, as I've tried 2 more pairs (one t-shirt and one cotton dress-shirt) that haven't worked as well, but in part that's because the shirts I was trying weren't really big enough - he's 2! So now I have a little stack of XXL t-shirt to try again.
He keeps pulling out that amazing robot fabric I got a while back and telling me to make him some robot pants!
Maybe I will.
