Finally. It's done! And I hope my photos look halfway decent - I'm too impatient to wait for non-snowy light.
Okay, here's the situation: I used to have a craft setup in our bedroom. And it was awful. Mostly because I ...um... am not a naturally neat crafter. I make messes. And having a big crafty mess in your bedroom is not ideal. I mean, I cleaned it up when I could, but really, isn't your own bedroom last priority?
Ah, anyway, in the Great Reshuffle recently, we started working on carving out a corner for me in the closet. First up, we took off the bi-fold doors (hooray! Only one more pair of those left in the house - and they will be gone soon) and then I cleaned it out (the hardest part). Next I put my husband to work. There were two shelves in the closet, and the top one was narrower than the bottom one (make sense? A stupid design anyway) so Aaron took the top one off and installed it below the bigger shelf. And now I can reach both of them.
He put pegboard up so I could hang some of my crafty tools and some little boxes. This was a fabulous idea, and more will be hung up eventually. Next came the cool little lamp so I could have some light in the closet for night-time crafting - it gets pretty good light during the day, being opposite a large window.
We moved in a table (after switching the tables around, of course) and chair and my little drawer units (mostly hold scraps, ribbon, and current projects).
I got decently organized and went to town with my label maker.
The clothesline is for drying gocco prints. It works great. When I want to print, I just scoot my sewing machine to the side of the table. My paper and screens, etc. are in the magazine holders (inks, bulbs, and the gocco machine are in an under-the-bed box right behind the closet (under the bed, duh).
I love my magnet board. I love a place to put my current favorite 'pretty' things.
There was a little 6" space on the back wall next to the pegboard - and I happened to have big strips of poster-sized photos on hand from a recent framing project, so I put one of the scraps on the wall. Silly, but I like it.
Last night we finally got the curtains up. Yeah! So now I can 'put away' my crafting space and you'd never know it was there. Makes for a much more relaxing bedroom. I may not have a craft room, but I have a craft space. And it works well for sewing or working with paper. which is what I wanted.
Thank you, Aaron!
Click on the photos to see where everything goes (flickr notes). And that does not include fabric. My fabric stash is in a dresser next to the closet - which really needs to be my next project - it's getting out of control.
p.s. I'm sure a few of you are asking "Where does she hang up her clothes?". Truthfully, I don't. I don't really have any dresses, and I fold my skirts. And I keep my shoes downstairs. Who needs a closet? ;)
