Playroom - details

I wanted to show you a better look at the mobile I made for the playroom:

I painted an embroidery hoop red, and cut out lots and lots of circles (3 different sizes) from vintage children's books.

Everything is hung with red/white baker's twine.

It moves and sways a little with the slightest breeze, and I like how each circle is really different and fun.  Fun to make, more fun to look at! It really matches the decoupaged bookcase it's hung by too.

Another picture I have hanging is a shot of the three kids in front of Thomas (from this year's Day Out With..).  I actually can't believe how well it came out.  I found some semi-subtle Thomas scrapbook paper to back it with.

I covered all the outlet covers and lightswitches in fabric:  Dick and Jane or a stripe I used in the bunting.

Here's a better shot of our... art/picture hanger thingy.

Basically, I found a piece of wood in the garage, hot-glued wooden clothespins to them, and then painted the whole thing red (same color as the bookcase ).  Easy.  I tried hanging it horizontally, but the papers on top flopped over too much.  But vertically works well!  I like having a place to hang the kids latest coloring, or photos of the cousins.

The best thing is, since you know I'm a total cheapskate - none of this cost much!  Some cost nothing.  Woo hoo!

It's all in the details.

Great details,my friend!

Cute mobile! I don't know if I could bring myself to cut up all those neat books! You must have duplicates or something. ;o)

That's awesome. I love the artwork hanger. I made one just like that, but hung horizontally (all the clothespins faced down) to hang dress-up clothes. It's much easier than hooks.

That mobile is awesome. Although it would hurt to cut into those books! Please dish on that...

Reminds me, though, of the full page images I cut and framed from my oversized Mother Goose Book for Fidget's nursery. The imagery is so beautiful, and it's seen much more now than it would have if stuck on the high shelf - far away from curious fingers...

That's a cute mobile! The room really looks great. So many wonderful details.

The room looks fabulous. I beyond love the mobile. I might just have to make one for Isaiah's room. He has a knack for destroying books, so I have a lot of pretty images laying around that I couldn't bare to throw out!

Love the mobile!

oh man, i need to go make a mobile.

Love all these finishing touches Kirsten. The art hanger/thingy (!)looks pretty cool.

Oh my gosh, you're a genius! All these years I've been scrapbooking and it never occurred to me to put a beautiful paper behind a photo to be framed. Love the idea and thanks so much for such an inspirational blog, love to read it!

the mobile rocks. i adore it.

It looks AWESOME! I love it!! I bet your kids do too! :)

I wish I had a playroom! Better yet, if I'm wishing- I wish you would decorate my said playroom!
FANTASTIC!!!

Totally, totally cool. I love these!

The room came out great.
And I especially like the mobile - I just can't cut into books. I would have to go and find really, really old ones.

You won't believe that I was drilling holes into an embroidery hoop on Monday! Too funny. My mobile is having "issues" but photos soon. The wood and clothespins is brilliant. Great, cheery details.

love love love loving the playroom!!!

Fun mobile and very colorful room - I especially like the children's art display board.

My son has been using a lot of tape to display his pictures. I think I will have to come up with a board and clothespins to help make it look a little neater, using less tape. Great room, very inspiring!

that artwork holder is brilliant! I need to make one for each of my kids' rooms... they have art taped to every wall practically. I could see this for Christmas cards, photos, notes by the front door, on and on.

I am SO happy that I followed the link to your blog from sew mama sew. I will leave you alone now. :D
