We had a couple of odd circumstances this week:
Twice, we went out with only 2 of the 3 kids. That very rarely happens so it was interesting.
Princess' dress rehearsal for her dance recital was this week. Downtown in a big concert hall - for three hours. So the boys and I dropped her off, then picked up Aaron and headed to a very cool Botanical garden. We had such fun! I don't think we'd been there since Halloween. I love going there, because you can see the kids absorbing all this info: textures, sights, sounds, smells... I took a ton of pictures because it's gorgeous there - maybe I'll share them another time.
The next night Thomas spent the night at Grandma's - just for fun, and his very first sleepover by himself (and he had a ball - simply basking in all the attention). When I went to make dinner I realized that we could actually go out to eat with the other two - so we did. Thomas is on a gluten-free, dairy-free (peanut-free, red dye-free) diet, so eating out is usually impossible. We realized it was probably Monkey's first time at a restaurant - and he was hilarious - ordering himself a soda, being so curious about everything, and 'Where's my food?'. We couldn't remember the last time we went out with Princess, either.
On the way home, we stopped for ice cream cones, something else we can't do usually (we do eat ice cream at home, Thomas eats Rice Dream - but the cones don't happen at our house).
It was Monkey's very first ice cream cone. It was 'deyicious'.
So, weird - only two kids - twice in one week! And I felt a little guilty about going out without Thomas - I don't want the kids to think we were celebrating Thomas not being home (which we totally weren't - we missed him!), or resent him for not being able to go out more often - but it was fun.
Princess and Monkey got a nice night out, and Monkey got a long bath all to himself (which he really needed after that ice cream cone!)
- with much less splashing.
